We are not able to accept any Inca Trail
bookings without all of your passport
information. You can provide an old
passport number, but you must bring it
with you to the trek, unless your new
passport contains the old passport
number. Passport information is verified
by government officials at start of the
trek. If the original passport number
you booked with does not match up, you
will be unable to start the trek.
Inca Trail Regulations, introduced in
2002, limit the number of trekkers and
prevent trekkers from doing the trail
independently. The number of trekkers
permitted has been limited to 500
persons per day. This number includes
tourists, tour guides, porters, and
cooks. This means that only about 200
tourists per day hike the Inca Trail;
therefore we recommend reserving your
place far in advance.
The only document required to hike the
Inca Trail is the permit issued by the
National Institute of Culture (INC).
This permit is personal, non-transferable
and non-refundable and includes the
entrance fee to Machu Picchu.
Reimbursement of the Inca Trail permit
and entrance ticket to Machu Picchu is
not possible under any circumstance.
This means the security deposit is not
refundable under any circumstances
either.
When booking the Inca Trail, you MUST
provide full names, passport numbers,
ages and nationalities of all those
going on the trip.
Incorrect information on travelers will
result in the refusal of their entrance
permits; no reimbursement of fees will
be made in this case. Government
representatives will verify, at the
checking point the first day, that
information on your passport and Inca
Trail permit match up. If information
does not match up, you will not be
allowed to start the trek. However,
minor mistakes such as a letter of your
name, wrong gender or age will be
accepted to start the trek.
At time of booking, please specify if
you require the services of an
additional porter as this detail cannot
be changed after making a booking.
Porters also require an Inca Trail
permit.
To be entitled to a student discount on
the Inca Trail permit, a valid
International Student Identification
Card (ISIC) must be provided. No other
forms of student identity are acceptable.
A scanned copy of your ISIC must be
emailed immediately after booking. If a
copy of your ISIC is not provided, you
will be charged the standard trek price.
You must bring your ISIC to the trek as
it will be checked by government
officials.
Inca Trail permits can be bought 360
days before the trip begins. We can take
reservations with more time in advance,
but we cannot guarantee availability.
The permits will be purchased as soon as
available.
The classic Inca Trail (4 days/3 nights)
will be closed each year during February
to allow conservation projects to be
undertaken as well as to give the
vegetation a chance to recover. Machu
Picchu and the shorter 2-day Inca Trail
will remain open as usual.
We recommend that you arrive in Cusco at
least 2 days before starting the trek to
ensure you are acclimatized to the high
altitude
